Nurses

The Comal ISD Health Services department serves more than 29,000 students in 34 campuses and works closely with school staff and parents to address the physical, mental, emotional and social health needs of each.

The Texas Department of State describes school health services as a “coordinated system that ensures a continuum of care from school to home to community health care provider and back” (Small et al., 1995). Comal ISD Health Services shares the Texas School Health Program vision of a Texas where all children are healthy, ready to learn and prepared to make healthy lifelong choices.

Registered Nurses

In order to fulfill this vision, Comal ISD employs registered nurses to serve each campus. As the main health contact in the school setting, these nurses play a pivotal role in bridging healthcare and education. Additional support is provided at some campuses with licensed vocational nurses as well.
