October 1, 2026 - Recent Davenport High School graduate Kate Nash found her purpose through the Career and Technical Education Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Pathway. Today, as the Texas FFA Area VII State Vice President, Nash visits high school campuses across Texas, speaking to students who share the journey she began just four years ago.
Nash originally moved to the San Antonio area from Hawaii during her 8th-grade year. Knowing little about Texas, let alone Texas Agriculture, Nash joined the Davenport agriculture class as a way to get involved with her campus and meet fellow students.
“I was initially introduced to FFA through a friend and fellow student,” explained Nash. “It was in this class that I was introduced to the program, all of its opportunities, and met the teachers who would become incredibly impactful mentors to me.”
Prior to her Freshman year, Nash had already begun raising a show lamb through a Supervised Agricultural Experience facilitated by DHS FFA teacher Maddisyn Farmer. Through FFA, Nash was exposed to the vast amount of leadership and development opportunities that the program offers.
Nash was involved in every opportunity, from classroom instruction to competitive events and leadership roles. Her involvement included: Livestock Judging team, Public Relations team, Senior Skills Demonstration team, Job Interview team, and has served as both the Secretary and President for the Chapter Officer team. Outside of leadership, Nash showed her market steer at various major livestock contests.
Despite the impressive accolades she received from competitions, Nash measures her success by the lessons and skills she has gained in her time with Davenport FFA.
“Through my involvement I have been able to travel to Indianapolis, Indiana to serve as a delegate at the National FFA Convention and influence the future of the organization on the national level, attend Texas FFA State Leadership Conferences to develop my leadership skills and build network, and most recently as a State Officer I attended the State Officer Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. where I met state officers from across the nation, spoke with government representatives of Texas, and grew my advocacy skills,” says Nash.
After graduating from Davenport in May, Nash participated in a rigorous election process involving a series of tests, interviews, and speeches before getting officially installed as 1 of 12 State Officers at the Texas FFA State Convention in July. Her responsibilities as Area VII Vice President include representing all 175,000 members and attending statewide leadership conferences, chapter visits, advocacy events, educational workshops, industry meetings, and the Texas FFA Convention.
By exploring Davenport’s CTE Agriculture pathway and FFA chapter, Nash was able to discover her passion for leadership within the agricultural world and pursue it further post-graduation with the help of her campus career advisors. She is currently enrolled at Texas Tech University and pursuing a degree in Agribusiness
“FFA has instilled confidence, courage, and character in me through its opportunities and has given me a spot in a huge community,” says Nash. “These are the things I want every member to know that they can do and be a part of. All it takes is one simple “yes” and FFA initiates amazing growth, change, and passion in us.”
Thank you Kate Nash for sharing how Davenport High School has supported you on your Path to Success
