Kinder Ranch Elementary Team To Compete in Inaugural First Lego League State Competition

March 9, 2023 - A Comal ISD First Lego League (FLL) team has qualified for the first-ever state competition which takes place Saturday, March 11, in Houston. Only 56 teams from across the state qualified for this honor.

The Kinder Ranch Elementary School team, the Fantastic Lego Leaders, competed against 120 teams at the Central Texas FLL Regional Championship on March 4, and was one of 10 to advance to the state competition.

The KRES team which is coached by Katie Gaston and Theresa Hicks also received the engineering award at the regional event. Team members include Alec Albarracin, Annie Gaston, Kellen Gibson, Joaquin Gloria, Ethan Harrell, Isabella Jimenez, Sebastian Loustaunau, Ander Romero and Addison Webb.

Two Johnson Ranch Elementary teams also brought home honors from the regional competition including the JRES Electro Knights which received the Rising Star Award and the JRES Big Bag of Nuggets which received the Motivation Award.

This year’s competition season began Jan. 21 at Davenport High School when Comal ISD hosted a First Lego League qualifying tournament which included 29 student teams competing for a chance to advance to the regional championship event.

From this tournament, 10 teams advanced to the regional competition including Bill Brown Elementary Yoda, Church Hill Middle Panthers, Freiheit Elementary Mighty Eagles, Garden Ridge Elementary Super Charged Wolves, Hoffmann Lane Elementary Aqua Eels, JRES Big Bag of Nuggets, JRES Immortal Electroknights, KRES Fantastic Lego Leaders, Rahe Bulverde Elementary Lego Gang and Rebecca Creek Elementary Green Hawks.
