Comal ISD Board of Trustees Announces Lone Finalist for Superintendent

Sept. 19, 2022 - This evening, the Comal ISD Board of Trustees announced the lone finalist in its search for a superintendent, Dr. John E. Chapman III.

Chapman and Comal ISD now begin the state-mandated 21-day waiting period, which allows for negotiations and vetting prior to a lone finalist transitioning into the role of superintendent. During this timeframe, there is no contractual obligation.

“We took the superintendent search for Comal ISD very seriously,” said Jason York, Comal ISD Board of Trustees president. “We listened to feedback from community members, parents and staff and paid very close attention to the details. We made our decision for not only current students and staff but for future students and staff of Comal ISD. I firmly believe that we got it right.”

With 17 years of experience as a superintendent, Chapman has served Chillicothe ISD, Comfort ISD, Ennis ISD and is currently serving Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District. He has been named Superintendent of the Year for both Texas Education Region 13 while serving Comfort ISD and Region 10 while serving Ennis ISD. He is a member of several professional organizations and serves in advisory roles as a mentor to administrators and educators.

Chapman earned his doctorate of education degree in educational leadership from Texas Tech University; master’s degree in education and mid-management from Wayland Baptist University; and bachelor’s degree in education from McMurry University.

He began his career in education as a teacher and coach in Lubbock and served as an assistant principal, junior high principal and high school principal. Chapman is married and has two sons.
