One Act Play from Canyon Lake High Advances to State Competition

April 22, 2022 - The cast and crew of this year’s Canyon Lake High School one act play has advanced to the UIL 4A State competition with their performance of “Over the Tavern” by Tom Dudzick.

The 24-student member cast and crew walked away with four individual awards and made school history on Thursday at the region competition in Portland as they advanced.

They will be one of eight high school productions competing for the UIL State title on Thursday, May 5, in Round Rock. The first performance begins at 3 p.m.

“We are so excited for these students, directors and parents,” said Carla Schumann, Comal ISD’s director of fine arts. “This is a talented combination of students telling a funny and heartfelt family story on stage.”

Under the direction of the CLHS theatre director Benjamin Matthews, four members of this talented cast and crew received honors at the Area competition including Becker Russell, All Star Cast for his portrayal of Rudy Pazinski; Dylan Burden, All Star Crew; and Seth Taylor and Jack Williams earned Honorable Mention for their portrayals of Eddie Pazinski and Chet Pazinski, respectively.

Theater is just one of the opportunities for students in Comal ISD to get connected and become involved beyond the classroom. These opportunities help develop social and interpersonal skills along with teaching teamwork, responsibility and compassion.

“I love that my son has had the opportunity to have fun and make memories while building skills and learning that with dedication and teamwork, you can achieve great things,” says Jamie Kennedy, mother of Maddox Kennedy who is part of the backstage crew for the CLHS one act play.

Congratulations and Break a Leg at State!
