April 11, 2022 - A Mountain Valley Middle School student’s artwork was chosen as the logo for the 12th Annual Student Showcase and will be featured on pins and on the district’s website.
Emily Steen, an MVMS eighth-grade student, was surprised with the announcement last week and excited to see her design used to promote the Showcase.
The winning logo features a stack of books with this year’s theme written on the spines, “It starts with us.” It also showcases a few of the activities Steen has enjoyed as a student in the district including a paintbrush to represent art and a chess piece to represent the challenging board game.
Steen’s design was chosen among more than 125 entries from across the district by students at all grade levels.
“I love art,” says Steen, 14, who is also involved in theater, golf and UIL academic events. “It’s one of my favorite things. It helps me with my emotions and focus. I can represent emotions that I feel with characters that I draw.”
She encourages other students to enter contests and to practice whatever it is they enjoy doing, that’s what she does.
“It really takes practice,” Steen says. “Just keep practicing and you will pick up things along the way.”
