Elementary Summer Learning Opportunities
Stay Engaged With Learning This Summer!
Even though school is not in session, we encourage families to maintain a summer schedule that encourages academic enrichment, reading for pleasure, and physical activities!
Whether you’re just dipping your toes into the ABCs or you’re a pro-diver in the world of chapter books, our Home Literacy Pool Party is open to everyone. Grab your "goggles" and get ready to explore stories from the shallow end to the high dive.
Summer isn't just a break; it’s filled with adventures. Whether you are submerging yourself in a thick mystery novel, fun graphic novel, or a family read-aloud before bed, every page counts. Step away from the screens, soak up the sun, and let your imagination swim. Check out our curated book lists and visit your local library to find your next great adventure!

Fun Ideas to Promote Reading
- Snorkel Reading: Give your child a pair of cheap goggles (or make "explorer goggles" out of toilet paper rolls). Tell them they are "diving" into the book to find an interesting fact, a funny word, or a specific color.
- Summer Reading Fort: Build a tent using sheets or blankets. Fill it with stuffed animals, comfy pillows, and books.
- Flashlight Fish: In a darkened room, use a flashlight to "spotlight" words on a page. This is a great way to help younger kids (K-2) focus on one sentence at a time without feeling overwhelmed by a full page of text.
- Lounge & Learn: Find a sunny spot or a cozy "pool float" (your favorite beanbag) and read for 20 minutes.
- Postcards from the Pool: Write a letter to a friend or teacher about your favorite "splashy" summer moment.
- Stroke Practice: Keep your writing muscles strong by journaling your daily adventures in a "Summer Log."
