Ways We Give

Since 2001, CEF has awarded more than $1,305,000 to Comal ISD in the form of teacher grants, district-wide initiatives and other programming. As a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt corporation, the foundation works to increase private support for educational innovation and initiatives of Comal ISD. These activities are made possible through generous donations from corporate partners, parents and local donors, CISD employees, private grants and community organizations.

The Comal Education Foundation continuously evaluates the most impactful ways to provide resources for  innovative ideas and program support that goes beyond Comal ISD's normal operating budget. Funds we raise are distributed to Comal ISD and used to promote student and teacher achievement, motivate students to learn, and provide a platform for all students to reach their maximum potential.

Competitive Grants
Grant applications can be submitted by any CISD employee. Grant categories include:
  • New Teacher Grant
  • Innovation Grant
  • Expertise Grant
  • New Campus Grants

Innovation Grant Applications include a detailed proposal explaining how the innovative program will fill the gaps in learning, the impact of students reached, and methods for which the effectiveness of the program can be evaluated. A budget template outlining resources requested for the program and Principal approval form are also required for the application to be considered. All applications are first vetted through district administrators to ensure the outcomes of the grant will fulfill the mission and of both CEF and Comal ISD.  Applications are available in the fall and spring. District-Wide Initiatives and Curriculum Enhancement

The Comal Education Foundation works closely with Comal ISD to support strategic goals and opportunities to enhance student achievement through district wide programming and emergency relief when needed. Recently, CEF was proud to sponsor WiFi buses during the spring of 2020 for students to have internet access for remote learning during COVID emergency operations.

Named Endowments

The foundation proudly accepts endowments for scholarships and grants.  With a minimum contribution of $10,000, a named endowment funds a scholarship or grant award through the interest income earned from the endowment. CEF currently has one named endowment under management—the Jan Heckendorn Memorial Scholarship.
