Principal Perspectives: Getting to Know Julie Wiley and Hill Country College Preparatory High School

October 8, 2026 - Celebrate Principal Appreciation Month by getting to know Hill Country College Preparatory High School Principal Julie Wiley. In this Q&A, Wiley highlights the programs, opportunities and supportive environment that help students create their own Path to Success while offering families a closer look at the campus ahead of School of Choice applications.

Q: If you could describe your school in three words, what would they be and why?
A: Collaborative, Post Secondary Focused, Engaging, Falcon Family

Q: What is something people are always surprised to learn about you?

A: I am a first generation college student and I have four teenage daughters.

Q: What is your favorite school tradition or event each year?

A: Compassion Project during holiday time when we adopt students from our neighboring elementary and make their holidays brighter with gifts and a party, it's a whole campus time of event.

Q: If your school had its own theme song, what would it be and why?

A: "Good Life" by One Republic - this Falcon Family makes it a good life to be a part of.

Q: What would you tell a family who is considering your school for the first time?

A: We have a welcoming culture where students are able to grow and improve into being their best self. While we do have rigorous coursework, there are a lot of supports in place to help them learn how to be college students and thrive. We provide an opportunity for students to earn an associate's degree for free during their four years of high school, saving time and money for student and family.

Q: What is the best part of your day as principal?

A: Seeing students engage in collaboration with their peers, get excited about what they are learning, when they want to tell you all about it. That's my favorite part of the day.

Q: What inspired you to become an educator, and eventually a principal?

A: I have always loved school, loved learning and it inspires me to be around staff and students excited for the same thing. Being a principal has allowed me to have an impact on a larger number of staff and students.
When students see you around campus, what do you hope they remember most about you?
That I knew who they were, not just their name, but I cared about who they were as a student and that they were seen.

Q: What opportunities or programs get students most excited to come to school?

A:Robotics, Cybersecurity, UIL Academics, Debate, Student Council. Students love to be involved in clubs and organizations, these are just a few, but they really love the sense of Falcon Family in and out of the classroom.

Q: On a fun note, if you were a student at your school today, what club, activity, or class would you most want to join?

A: I would of loved the humanities and world studies classes. I love history and literature so to have had them combined would have been right up my alley.

Thank you, Ms. Wiley, for your dedication to creating opportunities that empower students to discover and pursue their Path to Success.
