2020-21 Enrollment FAQs

There are two important items for you, as a parent or guardian, should be aware of:  
  • Enrollment will be completed online. All enrollment – for new and returning students, Pre-K through 12 – will be completed online using our new Skyward parent portal.  
  • Choice of Instructional Delivery Option. This year you will be asked to choose a preferred form of learning for your child – On Campus Instruction or Remote Learning. 
Skyward is Comal ISD’s new student information system. It will give you an easy way to enroll your child and access their school information. Skyward replaces our previous parent portal, txConnect. 
 
The district also will use Skyward for a variety of enterprise business functions including financial management, payroll and human resources. 
When you enroll your child using Skyward, you'll avoid the typical paperwork and trips to a school campus to complete registration.
 
After the school year begins, Skyward will provide you with access to your child’s grades, class schedules, attendance record and more. This information will be available whenever you need it, online or through the Skyward Family app.
Returning Students – On Tuesday, July 21, you will receive an email from COMAL ISD with a username and a link to reset your password to set up a Skyward Family Access account. Through this account, you will be asked to review, verify and complete enrollment information for your child.
 
New Students – On Tuesday, July 28, you will go to the Enrollment page on the Comal ISD website and click on New Students to request a Skyward account. Look for an email from COMAL ISD with a username and a link to reset your password for a New Student account. Through this account, you can complete registration for your child.
Complete enrollment for the returning student on July 21. Then complete enrollment for the new or incoming student on July 28. 
For returning students, you will need a digital copy of: 
  • A proof of residency – a mortgage or lease agreement or a recent (within 30 days of enrollment) utility bill from the electric, gas, water, or cable company. Make sure the bill is current – within 30 days of enrollment. 
  • An immunization record, if updated in the last year. 
For new students, you will need a digital copy of: 
  • A proof of residency – a mortgage or lease agreement or a recent utility bill from the electric, gas, water, or cable company.  
  • An immunization record from your previous school or family doctor
  • An unofficial transcript or report card from your previous school
  • Your child’s birth certificate  
Documents can be a PDF, a scan or a digital image – even a picture taken with your phone, so it can be uploaded into our Skyward portal. 
Comal ISD’s has a state-mandated and a tuition-based prekindergarten program. There are specific eligibility requirements that must be met for each program prior to enrollment.  
 
During New Student enrollment, which begins July 28, go to the Enrollment page on the Comal ISD website and click on the Pre-K Enrollment link to request a Skyward Family Access account to apply. 
Yes. Look for this as one of the last enrollment tabs in Skyward. Simply check Yes if you would like to request bus transportation. Per the student information provided, the district will send you information regarding your bus route as soon as that information is available. 
No, this choice will not be part of the enrollment process.
 
On Aug. 11, the district will send an email to you for each of your enrolled students. Through this survey, you will commit to one of the two instructional delivery options.

If the email address you provided to Comal ISD has changed, contact your school campus and ask for the campus registrar. Provide your new email address and any other contact information that may need to be changed. This information will be entered into the district’s student information system as soon as possible. 
 
When you set up your Skyward Family Access account, you can update this information. Later, you can log in to your Skyward account to make updates or download and log in to the Skyward Family Access app.
Look to our new Parent Center page on the district’s website. This page includes FAQs and information on health and safety guidelines, meal distribution, attendance and grades and more.
