Guidance and Counseling
The mission of the Comal ISD school counseling program is to provide all students comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling services that address academic, career, and personal/social skills necessary to foster personal responsibility to become contributing members of our society. The comprehensive program combines classroom guidance lessons, individual and small group counseling (responsive services), individual academic student planning, and system support.
Areas covered in the guidance curriculum may involve the following content areas: self-confidence development, motivation to achieve, decision making, goal setting, planning, problem-solving skills, interpersonal effectiveness, communication skills, cross-cultural effectiveness, and responsible behavior. Additionally, Comal ISD counselors, in accordance with state law, must include resources regarding the following:
- Bullying Prevention
- Suicide Prevention
- Substance Abuse Prevention
- Teen Dating Violence Awareness
- Benefits of Higher Education and Texas Automatic Admission Policies
- Abuse/Maltreatment of Children Awareness
