Leaves and Absences

All full-time CISD employees and bus drivers/assistants receive 5 local sick days and 5 state-issued personal days each year (starting July 1 and ending June 30). Unused sick and personal days roll over to the next year. Personal days are issued by the State of Texas and can be transferred to other school districts.

To check personal leave balances, login to the Comal ISD’s Skyward Employee Portal Access site.

For more specific information, read the Leaves and Absences section of the district’s Board Policy Manual, which can be accessed through the Board Policies page.

Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) guarantees up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave each year to qualifying employees for specified family and medical leave reasons, and pursuant to amendments to the law, up to 26 workweeks of leave in a single 12 month period to care for a seriously ill or injured service member, when the employee is the spouse, son, daughter, parent or next of kin of the service member.

Only eligible employees are entitled to take FMLA leave. An eligible employee is one who has worked for the employer for at least 12 months and has at least 1,250 hours of service for that employer during the 12 month period immediately preceding the leave.
To request leave under FMLA, please complete the leave request form and send to Glenna Miranda in the Benefits Office of Human Resources. Medical Certification is also required, either for the employee or the family member requiring care.
