HOW WE BEGAN

Founded in 2001, community leaders in Comal County organized the Comal Public School Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity, to provide support and resources for the teachers and students of the Comal Independent School District. With financial support from community businesses and individuals, CEF began awarding grants to various CISD campuses to enhance the learning process. Our first fundraiser, a Founders’ Drive, pledged more than $130,000 to support the mission.

OUR FIRST RECOGNITION EVENT

The Jan Heckendorn Academic Recognition Banquet was developed to recognize the top graduating seniors from each of the district’s high schools. Each year, this event provides an opportunity for CEF to recognize both student excellence and teacher excellence. Students select their most influential teacher and both are honored at this event. The event's namesake, Jan Heckendorn, was a founding member of the CEF Board of Directors and played an integral role in the early success of the organization.

INVESTING IN OUR SCHOOLS

Today, CEF is proud to announce that 100% CISD school campuses have received funding from the foundation. At the end of the 2022-2023 academic year, grant awards have totaled over $1,476,100!
