How do I apply for admission to Memorial High School?

Admission to Memorial High School is based upon the student’s academic needs and past performance.  Prospective students must be enrolled in a Comal ISD high school, be recommended by a school official (at-risk coordinator, counselor, or administrator), complete an application, and submit both the application and a current transcript to the home campus at-risk coordinator.  Each campus has an established selection committee that will make the final recommendation of acceptance. A principal interview is the final step for acceptance.

What if a student fails to show academic progress?

Memorial High School conducts periodic reviews and assessments of student progress.  Students must earn a minimum of 1 credit during each 4-½ grade-reporting period (includes Progress Reports and Report Cards).  Students who fail to earn the required credit during the first grade-reporting period following enrollment will be PLACED ON PROBATION.  A student may be placed on probation only one time a scholastic year. Students who fail to make adequate progress during a second grading period are sent back to home campus. A second assessment is conducted during the second grading period. If the student is still failing to make progress a conference between the student, the parent, a home campus representative and the Memorial High School principal is held. The purpose of the conference is to decide upon an appropriate date to place the student back at eh home campus.

The following issues are taken into consideration in making a final decision:

  1. Student attendance including tardies.
  2. The school was notified when the student was absent.
  3. Each absence has a note on file.
  4. The student has earned the appropriate number of credits during each grade-reporting period during enrollment at Memorial High School.
  5. The student is not currently on academic probation.
  6. The student has not been sent to the principal for disciplinary reasons.

An unacceptable response to any of these issues may lead to a recommendation to return the student to the home campus.

What are Memorial High School's acceptance procedures and consequences?

Students accepted to Memorial High School will be notified by letter from the home campus.  The letter will outline procedures to be followed to meet final admission requirements.  Once those procedures are completed, accepted students must withdraw from the home campus and enroll at Memorial High School.  This process will automatically remove students from the ranking in class.  Seniors who graduate from Memorial High School will be unranked.  Underclassmen will be reinserted into their class ranking if it becomes necessary to return to the home campus.  Students enrolling at Memorial High School also lose all UIL participation privileges as well as social privileges at the home campus.  Graduating seniors receive a diploma from Memorial High School.
