These lessons and activities using the iPod touch have all been used with success at CISD.

Vocabulary Development

  • Comic touch: The teacher assigns a list of vocabulary words to the students. The student then uses the application, Comic touch, to create a comic panel to represent the word. The students first must find a picture on the Internet that they then save into their photo library. The picture must represent the vocabulary word in some way. The student then opens Comic touch, selects the photo and adds a caption or bubble where they will type a sentence containing the vocabulary word.

  • Book Applications: Many of the ELA books that the students are reading are available as apps. Teachers can have students search for vocabulary words in these book apps so that students can read the word in context.
