Each elementary, middle and high school has a videoconferencing system that can be wheeled into any classroom. A videoconference allows two or more sites to interact simultaneouly with both video and audio. The sites can be two campuses within our school district or include sites from around the world.

Why should I use VC in my classroom?

Videoconferencing can provide your students with unique interactive learning experiences and exposure to places and people from around the world. Imagine your students speaking with experts from NASA or interacting with other students their own age from South America. Not only are these experiences great learning opportunities, they are also fun and get students excited about learning.

What types of opportunities are available to me?

Your class can participate in virtual field trips such as a visit to NASA's space center or they can join other classes around the world in a collaborative project. Teachers will also have many opportunities to participate in professional devlopment without having to drive to a remote location.

How do I sign up?

Once you find an opportunity, you need to create a video conference reservation in eduphoria. If you are unsure how to fill it out, please ask your campus IT or call Melonie Gonzales at 2048 or Jennifer Wivagg at 2632.

What if the video conference costs money?

Please check with your principal or PTA regarding funding for paid videoconferences. The technology department also has a limited amount of money to spend on virtual fieldtrips. If you find a videoconference that would really help your students with s specific area of curriculum, please fill out this form.

What if I have an idea but need a partner?

Please email your idea to distancelearning@comalisd.org and we will be happy to help you find a partner.

I know I want to participate in a video conference but have no idea what to do? Where do I go for help?

First contact your campus IT for help. They will be happy to help you locate a conference, sign up,and help facilitate it in your classroom or train you to facilitate it.
