- The newly updated Business and Educator Resource Directory.

Texas History – The Texas Handbook assembled by the Texas State Historical Association has finally published their handbook on the Internet. All of the articles are searchable. It’s a great research tool for students as well as teachers.

Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators - Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators is a categorized list of sites useful for enhancing curriculum and professional growth. It is updated often to include the best sites for teaching and learning.

The New York Times Learning Network – This site from the New York Times brings the news into the classrooms in engaging ways. A daily feature story from the Times is accompanied by lesson plans developed in conjunction with New York’s Bank Street College of Education.

Discovery Channel School – This site serves as a bridge between the Discovery Channel’s educational programming and the K-12 classroom. Structured around the themes addressed by the channel’s programming, it includes lesson plans, teaching suggestions, and forums for discussion.

Federal Resources for Educational Excellence (FREE) – FREE is a collection of hundreds of federally supported online resources for education. Links grouped by subject area – like art, history, and science – lead to sites sponsored by such agencies as the National Endowment for the Arts (and Humanities), the National Science Foundation, NASA, the Peace Corps, and the Library of Congress.

Teachers.Net - The ultimate teacher's resource. This site includes "lesson bank" where teachers can deposit (and borrow) sample lesson plans, a calendar of upcoming workshops and conferences, a mentor support center, online discussions with well-known authors and educators, and several chatboards.

Educator's Reference Desk - A federally-funded national information system sponsored by the U. S. Department of Education, Syracuse University, and the Case Center. A personalized Internet service providing information and assistance to educators.

The George Lucas Educational Foundation. A gold mine of educational Web sites for teachers and students. GLEF produces a newsletter with feature stories. E-Resources has links to helpful online resources, projects, and programs in K-12 education. The What’s New destination has news about GLEF and what’s been added to the website.

This is an alphabetical listing (as well as linking) of all resources mentioned by the Internet Education Clearinghouse. They range from elementary to college level in topic. There are links to virtually every educational topic imaginable.

NASA’s Quest Project – This site includes a visit with the shuttle team online, tracking of Live from Mars, online interaction projects as well as more resources for bringing the Internet into the classroom.

National School Boards Association brings together thousands of individuals active with local school boards across the nation to share information about policy development and education reform.

P. E. Central contains a wealth of information on physical education and health instruction, including lesson ideas for pre-kindergarten through high school classes, assessment techniques, and links to people and instructional resources on the World Wide Web. Also included are conference and workshop calendars and tips for equipment purchasing.

Teachers come first at TeachersFirst. Created by the Netwrok for Instructional TV Inc., TeachersFirst is a free, one-stop site created specially for teachers. The site contains high-quality web resources for the classroom, sorted by subject and grade level; discussion groups; professional resources; and a "Hot Topics" section to keep you abreast of current issues. Under "Hop Topics," you’ll find the; Latest & Greatest: on the web --- new sites and curriculum resources, updated weekly. A tour of this section during the week of Nov. 23, for example, revealed a site from the Latin American News and Information Center with reports on the devastation caused by Hurricane Mitch. There’s also a "toolbox" section which offers plug-ins and other free downloads, and a web tutorial for new Internet users.

The multicultural art of Native American Math -- Developed by teacher and archaeologist Chris Hardaker of Window Rock, Ariz., This site draws upon the multi-cultural art of Native Americans to teach math to students in grades 4-9. Hardaker provides online tools to support a hands-on unit espousing a new approach to learning geometry: Using two sticks and a piece of string, students create geometric art while exploring such abstract concepts as spatial reasoning, square roots, proportional constants, and irrational numbers. As Hardaker says, "When you do the art, math happens!"

An old favorite online: PBS TeacherSource. This site of teacher resources features a constantly growing inventory of more that 1,000 free lesson plans, teacher guides, and online activities; most are designed to complement PBS programming. You’ll find curriculum resources grouped by subject area; monthly articles on educational research and best classroom practices; links to educational resources offered on the web sites of PBS member stations; a planning calendar with program schedules and taping guidelines for PS broadcasts; and monthly technology columns by David Thornburg, who examines effective uses of technology in the classroom.

Ask Jeeves for kids - Search engine and general links to a lot of information.

Yahooligans - Has a search engine geared to "Kids."

United States Postal Service information, letters read, history. Presents very informative information about the past as well as the present.
