Mission & Vision of Smithson Valley Middle School

A Letter From Principal Keranen:

Dear Mustang parents, students, and community;

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year! I hope each of you had a restful and enjoyable summer with your family and friends! We are excited to work closely with you and your children, to learn about your needs, and to hear your ideas about our school, so that your child receives the best educational experience possible! SVMS has strong traditions and high expectations, which will not change. At the same time and as the state assessment (STARR) continues to evolve, our staff will continue to provide each individual child with a strong foundation to not only be successful on the STARR, but to prepare for college readiness standards and the 21st century.

Each year, I encourage parents to become involved, join, and support our PTA, athletic teams, fine arts programs, clubs, and other school organizations. Talk with your childís teacher, their counselor and their administrator. Volunteer to help to make this campus a stronger community partnership for our students! As principal, please communicate with me if you need assistance. If you have questions or comments about SVMS, I may be reached by email at michael.keranen@comalisd.org or by calling the school at (830) 885-1206.

Letís have a great school year! Proud to be a Mustang!

Michael Keranen
Principal
