Mission & Vision of Smithson Valley Middle School

A Letter From Principal Keranen:

Dear Mustang parents, students, and community,

I hope each of you had a restful and enjoyable summer with your family and friends! Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! We are excited to work closely with you and your children, so that your child receives the best educational experience possible! SVMS has strong traditions and high expectations, these will not change. There will be some changes as the state assessment, the STAAR, continues to evolve. You will see that our staff will continue to provide each individual child with a strong foundation to not only be successful on the STAAR, but to prepare for college readiness standards. Our teachers, coaches, and staff have traditionally led our campus to excellent outcomes in many areas of school life. We will continue to provide opportunities for your children to develop lifetime skills, so that they may excel daily and be prepared for their future challenges.

Each year I encourage parents to become involved, join, and support our PTA, athletic teams, fine arts programs, clubs, and other school organizations. Talk with your child's teacher, their counselor, and their administrator. Please consider volunteering to help; by doing so, your involvement will make this campus a better place for students! As principal, please communicate with me if you need assistance. If you have questions or comments about SVMS, I may be reached by email at michael.keranen@comalisd.org or by calling the school at (830) 885-1206.

Let's have a great school year! Proud to be a Mustang!

Michael Keranen
