| New Immunization Requirements for 7th Graders |
On March 5, 2009, the Executive Commissioner on Health & Human Services approved several revisions to the “Immunization Requirements for Children and Students in Texas Public and Private Schools”. Five new vaccine requirements have been added to the immunization schedule.
The vaccines affected are Hepatitis A, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, and Meningococcal. The changes were made to adhere more closely to the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). The new requirements will affect ALL children entering into the Seventh Grade.
Beginning August 1, 2009 the following changes will include:
1 dose of Meningococcal (meningitis);
2 doses of Varicella (chickenpox);
1 dose of Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis).
Your child’s school nurse and the Comal County Public Health Department encourage all parents of children enrolling into the Seventh Grade to obtain these immunizations BEFORE the 2009 – 2010 registration in August. Any student not in compliance will not be allowed in school on the first day of classes.
