Welcome back Mountain Valley Middle School Hawks and Hawk families, and welcome to those of you who are new to our school and community. We believe you will find that your students will be academically engaged and challenged as they navigate through the middle school years at MVMS. In preparation for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year each of our MVMS teachers participated in 24+ hours of professional development over the course of the summer. This professional development was content specific and/or focused on research based instructional strategies. Many of these strategies were implemented the first week of school as students collaborated and navigated through various critical thinking activities. The 2014-2015 school year is off to a fantastic start.
Over the course of the month of September MVMS students will learn important organizational skills through instruction on how to effectively use their Hawk Binders and MVMS planners to track their daily homework and important dates. Binders and planners will be checked each Friday to ensure these organizational skills are practiced regularly and routinely. We believe that these organizational skills are the foundation for success in, and out of, the classroom.
We hope you will take note of the MVMS calendar and as we have many beginning of the year parent meetings taking place. 7th and 8th grade parents, please save the date: our 7th and 8th grade Open House will take place on Tuesday, September 16th from 5:30-7:30. Details will be sent out through our automated call and email system.
We also hope you will take advantage of the various parent meetings and volunteer opportunities available at MVMS. We know that parents are an essential component of their student’s school success and invite you to become as active as your schedule allows. Some of our parent involvement opportunities include Watch D.O.G.S., P.T.A., monthly Coffee With the Principal and monthly Hawk P.I.T. meetings.
