MVMS Hawk Families,
Friday, October 3rd marks the end of the 1st 6 week grading period. Report cards will be sent out the latter part of the week of October 6th. We encourage our parents and students to continue to check grades via txConnect frequently and to contact teachers regarding any grade concerns you have as soon as they arise throughout the year. All students were set up with a txConnect log-in through their ELA classes at the beginning of the year and are encouraged to stay on top of their grades. The sooner our parents, teachers and students connect the better!
Tutoring assistance is available in the library each morning, Monday – Friday from 7:45 – 8:15. We have one math teacher and one ELA teacher in the library during morning tutoring to provide assistance in any subject and in any grade during this time. All of our MVMS teachers are available to provide more skill specific tutoring for their students and are more than willing to schedule tutoring before and/or after school with any student who needs additional assistance. Students are encouraged to coordinate with their teacher(s) to schedule needed tutoring time as our teachers have campus and family obligations they must work around.
District developed Common Assessments are scheduled next week, October 6th – 9th. These assessments will be administered during the first hour of each day through a testing advisory class. Students will be informed of their testing advisory late this week and may test with a teacher they do not normally have a class with.
It is very important that all students are present, and on time, each day during the week of common assessments as their assessments not only count as a grade, but serve as important data utilized by our teachers to determine which of the concepts taught the 1st 6 weeks our students have mastered and those that need to be retaught. Please check the calendar for the Common Assessment (CA) schedule.
Your MVMS Hawk may have shared that our Monday – Thursday daily schedule has shifted to take out the enrichment period that was in place. Our math and ELA teachers requested this shift so that they could spend the extra time in class providing more personal academic assistance. As a campus we will re-evaluate whether or not we see the need to bring math and reading/writing enrichment back for the spring semester. We realize the needs of our students change over time and want to provide the appropriate level of intervention and support as their needs change. Although our Monday – Thursday schedule has changed our Club Friday schedule will remain in place!
We encourage our families to volunteer your time and talents at MVMS as your schedule allows. We always have a need for Thursday Volunteers, Watch DOGS, in-class guest speakers for our Youth Leadership classes and Exploring Careers classes. Please contact the school or Jacque Mentzer for details!
If I can ever be of assistance don’t hesitate to contact me.
