"CHARACTER COUNTS"

“CHARACTER COUNTS! gives kids a framework for ethical living. It is an educational framework for teaching universal values and a national coalition of organizations that support each other. The result is a culture change in your school. Research on CC! shows dramatically reduced behavior problems, reduced truancy, and increased test scores. In brief, when kids learn a consistent set of universal values and teachers model those values, behavior improves and educational focus soars.”

Counselor's Message:

I am your School Counselor here at Freiheit Elementary School! I am very excited about this upcoming 2011-2012 school year. I hope everyone has had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. My summer included floating the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers, swimming at Port A and Rockport, playing at Schlitterbahn, sunning by the neighborhood pool, trying to keep my flowers alive in this heat, and working out using P90X! It was a wonderful and relaxing summer.

My education background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology and Art from Saint Joseph's College near Purdue University in Indiana. I graduated Summa Cum Laude and knew that I wanted to pursue a Guidance and Counseling Master's Degree from Texas State University. While teaching full time, I completed my Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Texas State University and graduated top of my class! In addition, I am a member of the American School Counselor Association, the Texas Counseling Association, and TSTA.

My counseling experience includes being a camp counselor for a Summer in Florida where I lived with different cabins of girls ranging from ages 5-15, interning at the Career Center as a Career Counselor for Texas State University, counseling Texas State University students as a Graduate Research Assistant for Judicial Issues, serving as the Counselor for the Caminos Program at San Marcos High School for incoming 9th graders who want to go to college and would be first generation graduates, and working as a Counselor at the Texas State Counseling Clinic. I addition, while teaching, I was part of the Campus Improvement Team, Crisis Intervention Committee, Student - Mentor Program, New Teacher Mentor Program, and the Goodnight Ambassador Committee to help at-risk 8th graders become more positive role models.

For the past two years, I served as the Counselor at Oak Creek Elementary here in Comal ISD. Opening a new school was both a challenge and reward as I was able to be a part of building a school community literally from the ground up. I served as the Testing Coordinator, Section 504 Coordinator, Ocelot Officer Sponsor, Student Mentor, OCES Leadership Team, Math Tutor, Morning Announcements Supervisor, and head of the OCES University morning tutorial program. I am very excited about bringing all my skills and experience here to FES!

Please contact me via phone and/or email to set up an appointment to discuss any concerns, questions, and ideas you may have. I welcome any and all parent volunteers as you are a huge part of a school's success in helping our students. 2011-2012 is going to be a wonderful and exciting year here at FES.

Kind Regards,
