My name is Lyana Garcia and I am the new Project Director with Communities in Schools. I earned by bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1994 from the University of the Incarnate Word and then received my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling Psychology in 2007. I have 3 small children and have worked in the San Antonio area for over 10 years.
As the Communities in Schools director, I work with children in all grade levels to ensure that they make positive choices and are successful in school. Additionally, I provide groups focused on issues such as social skills, self esteem, and anger management. I also am available to work with students to promote academic achievement. And for the family, I can provide information on relevant community resources. My goal is to ensure that every child has the tools he or she needs to do well both at school and at home.
CIS is a great resource to help provide support and encouragement to students. If I can be of help in any way, please contact me directly or stop by my office.
