I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to serve this community as the Principal of Bill Brown Elementary.
This is my 17th year in education, and my sixth at BBES. I learned to be a teacher at Texas A&M University and learned to be a principal at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to starting here, I taught eighth grade American history, coached seventh grade football and basketball, worked as a graduate assistant on research related to teaching kids to read, taught fourth grade, and served as an elementary assistant principal. In April 2009, I completed my doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M. The topic of my dissertation research was the use of technology to supplement high-quality teacher instruction and improve student achievement in reading.
I'm a sixth generation Texan, originally from League City (located halfway between downtown Houston and Galveston Island). My mother was an elementary school teacher and my father was a middle school principal. My parents influenced my decision to work in a helping profession; from kindergarten through eighth grade I attended the schools in which they worked. They also introduced me to this region of our state, which I really love. When I was a kid my family took frequent trips to the Hill Country to float in the rivers and camp in the state parks. I remember thinking back then that one day I wanted to live here so it’s been great for that dream to have become a reality– the Guadalupe River runs right through the BBES attendance zone!
This summer I married Violeta De Leon of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, México. She’s a wonderful lady– the sunshine of my life! When I’m not working, I like to travel and go backpacking and camping. I spend as much time as I can during warm months in the rivers. I closely follow the Aggie football team, the Tar Heel basketball team, the Houston Astros, and the Houston Texans. I also enjoy listening to live music, and when I find time, I paint a bit.
I truly love my job, and I’m excited about waking up and coming to school every day we’re in session. The kids, teachers, and parents of this school community make Bill Brown Elementary very special; it’s a pleasure to serve you all. Please let me know if I can be of assistance to you.
