History of Mountain Valley School

The original Mountain Valley School was built on one acre of land.  The site was purchased from Carl and Matilda Marschall on March 2, 1874 for $5.00.  (We just happen to be known as the Mountain Valley Marshals...) Students were taught lessons only in German.

The school was moved to a new building in 1883.  Students were taught in German and English.  This school housed students until 1957 when the school closed.

The current building for Mountain Valley opened in 1975 and enrolled 196 elementary students and 147 middle school students.  Lessons were delivered in English.

In 1996, Mountain Valley School became Mountain Valley Elementary School and Mountain Valley Intermediate School.  The  new buildings included a cafeteria, which both schools shared, office buildings, classrooms, a large gymnasium and a library.  The intermediate campus was conveniently located right next to the elementary campus.

The campuses continued to grow and change with the elementary campus serving grades PK-4 and the intermediate campus serving grades 5 & 6. The campuses operated separately from 1996 until the fall of 2003.  The campuses were then combined under one principal and once again became Mountain Valley School.

Mountain Valley School currently has an enrollment of approximately 700 students and serves grades PK-6.  Students receive instruction in English, although English as a second language classes are available for students in need of those services.

Mountain Valley will soon be moving to a different location in Startzville.  Our new building should open in the fall of 2007.  Watch for construction updates throughout the year.
