Dear Comal ISD Parents and Students,
In light of recent events, I recognize the concern that we all share for the safety and well being of our students and staff. Comal ISD has been meeting with New Braunfels Independent School District and the Comal County Emergency Response Team, which includes city personnel, to define and implement a crisis readiness program in the event of a local or national emergency.
To increase campus safety the following procedures will be in effect until further notice:
1. All school employees must wear identification badges at all times in the school building.
2. All schools must enforce a visitor control procedure and require all visitors to sign in and wear badges.
3. All schools will secure all entrances and exits while still meeting fire and safety codes.
4. Each school will review the crisis plan with their staff.
5. Any student with a parking permit must have a parent permission letter on file to leave the campus in the event of a “shelter in place” decision. (see attached information)
At the district level the following procedures will be in effect until further notice:
1. CISD will continue to meet with NBISD and the Comal County Emergency Response Team to further prepare for an emergency.
2. Information will be provided to bus drivers as to what to do in an emergency.
3. Bus drivers will conduct visual inspections of their buses prior to departures.
4. A continual review of campus field trips will occur on a day-to-day basis.
5. Cancellation of field trips will occur when needed.
I assure all parents, students and staff that Comal ISD is working hard to maintain a safe environment. Your cooperation and understanding is important. I am including the steps CISD would activate if a national emergency is declared and the nation is placed on a red alert. A good web site to visit is www.ready.gov. Anyone needing additional information please contact the Superintendents Office, 830-221-2000 or 830-885-1791.
Sincerely,
Superintendent of Schools
