Instructional Paraprofessionals
All Instructional Paraprofessionals are required to hold a Paraprofessional Aide Certificate through State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). The Human Resources department will provide the directions on how to apply at the time employment is being offered.
All Instructional Paraprofessionals are required to be Highly Qualified under No Child Left Behind (NCLB) at the time of employment. The minimum requirement can be met by having 48 college hours or by completing a NCLB session/workshop with an Education Service Center, either Region 20 (San Antonio) or Region 13 (Austin).
Teachers
The State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) sets the requirements for being a teacher in Texas. To teach in Texas, prospective teachers must first obtain a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, complete teacher training through an approved program, and pass examinations in the prospective teaching subject area(s).
For information on teacher certification programs, go to the SBEC website at www.sbec.state.tx.us.
