Here are some tips on gettings
involved in Comal ISD:
1. Join and become actively involved in your children’s Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) at the schools
2. Volunteer on your children’s campuses
3. Attend Parent/Teacher conferences; feel free to ask your children’s teachers for conferences when needed
4. Join and become actively involved in your schools’ booster clubs
5. Participate in the Parent Resource Centers at Bill Brown, Clear Spring, Freiheit, Goodwin Frazier, Morningside, Oak Creek, Rebecca Creek, and Startzville elementary schools. Secondary schools includes Mountain Valley Middle School and Canyon Lake High School.
6. Sign-up for and monitor your children’s grades online through Comal ISD’s website and the Parent Connection link on the homepage
7. Attend the district’s Parent Community Summits featuring timely topics and presentations to help parents
8. Sign up for Hot News email listserv messages sent from schools and the district throughout the year on timely and important topics
9. Use the “contact form” on the Comal ISD’s website to ask questions or write comments
10. Visit school and teacher websites for updated information
11. Consider serving on the Site-based Decision Making (SBDM) Committee at the campus level
12. Consider serving on the Comal Education Foundation’s Board of Directors
13. Consider serving on the District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) that makes decisions regarding curriculum and other matters
14. Consider participating in the Gifted/Talented Parent Group that meets several times a year, and attend the Gifted/Talented informational meetings held every fall.
15. Attend Comal ISD town hall meetings when held on important topics
16. Consider serving on a school name committee when a new middle or high school is planned for your community
17. Attend Comal ISD town hall meetings when held on important topics
18. Call or email your children’s teachers or principals as needed
19. Subscribe and listen to Comal ISD podcasts featuring important topics and information from the district (subscribe via the CISD website)
20. Read and stay informed through the monthly edition of SchooLife, the district’s parent newspaper
21. Complete and return specific surveys as provided to give input to planning and program decisions
