Linda Dreibrodt
New Teacher/Mentor Program Coordinator
(830) 221-2133The Comal ISD New Teacher Program, Buds in Bloom, is designed to provide systematic support for beginning teachers in their initial years on the job. Supporting beginning teachers early in their careers leads to reduced turnover and a more experienced, better-qualified public school teaching staff.
Comal ISD supports our first year teachers through coaching and mentoring relationships. Some of our programs include the Classroom Organization and Management Program (COMP) and professional development in a variety of research based instructional strategies. In addition, this year CISD is partnering with Texas State University in a Teacher Fellows collaborative induction program. Through the program, Teacher Fellows earn their M.Ed. while also serving as the fully-certified teacher-of-record in an elementary classroom. In exchange, an experienced teacher (thus called Exchange Teacher) from Comal ISD is released from classroom assignments to serve as on-site mentors to the Fellows during their first year. We are looking forward to another successful year of “growth” for our CISD Buds in Bloom.
