A course designed to give students an understanding of patrol procedures, communication systems, apprehension and detention requirements and tools utilized in the law enforcement /security profession. Students will understand basic crime scene investigation and demonstrate the ability to provide oral and written reports. This class involves hands – on training with equipment commonly used in the profession of protective services.

This course will allow the student to study the structure of the American criminal justice system; prosecution; defense; right to counsel; pretrial release; grand jury; adjudication process; rules of evidence; plea bargains; landmark case law and the relationship of law enforcement and corrections to our court system. Students will also participate in mock trials, debates and other activities related to criminal justice.

A course designed to give students an understanding of the correctional system in the criminal justice system. The course instruction will include requirements for employment in the correctional and security industry. Students will identify and research current issues facing the criminal justice system’s prison and jail populations. The student will analyze rehabilitation and alternatives to institutionalizing. Hands on activities will provide the students the ability to utilize proper inmate control and booking procedures. Students will have a basic understanding of the various levels of law in Texas and the requirements and procedures of arrest and confinement. Come explore inmate life and the responsibilities of criminal justice system.

This course will provide knowledge and skills necessary to prepare for a career in law enforcement. The study of common police procedures telecommunications, advanced field note taking and report writing; use of force; arrest procedures; search and pat down procedures; crowd control; accident investigations felony traffic stops; courtroom testimony. The course will also include the ethical and legal responsibilities of law enforcement officers. This course will include role playing and hands on learning with commonly used law enforcement equipment.

Forensic science is a structured and scientific approach to the investigation of crimes of assault, abuse and neglect, domestic violence, accidental death, homicide, and the psychology of criminalist behavior. Students will learn basic terminology and investigative procedures related to crime scene, question building, interviewing, criminal behavior characteristics, truth detection methodology, and scientific procedures used to solve crimes. Students will have the opportunity to collect and analyze evidence through case studies and mock crime scenes. Lab activities will be based on crime scene scenarios and analyzing fingerprints, ballistics, and blood spatter. Students will learn about the history, legal aspects of forensic science, and career options available in the forensic field.

The Fire Fighter I introduces students to firefighter safety and development. Students will understand Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) rules and regulations, proper incident reporting and records, the proper use of personal protective equipment, and the principles of fire science. The instructor uses both academic study and applied instruction to achieve measureable results. Students participate in structured, applied learning activities.
